Welcome to Desert land ‘MARU DESH’ known as THAR The Great Indian Desert. 800km north to south and 400km east to west some of its part is in Pakistan called Cholistan Desert. Jodhpur is on it’s eastern edge. Gemar Singh a desert guide and some of local people form rural desert and hilly area of Rajasthan (camel-horse owners, breeders, musicians, crafts-men and turban-men rajputts) have made a team. the aim of team to promote new and innovative approaches to build livelihood opportunities in rural areas through community action. Aptly named the Appropriate Rural Tourism Project is community-owned, culturally expressive and environmentally sustainable. Its goal, with the Rural Tourism Scheme, is to develop the culture, craft, adventure travel ways, local events and sustainable dimensions of rural life, as a means to viable livelihood opportunities for low-income rural communities. We are trying to invite travelers from India and abroad at our base camp Hacra Dhani in rural desert village. Team’s base camp Hacra Dhani is in Thar Desert around Jodhpur near Osian town. Further 19km north west of osian camp is en route (Jodhpur to Jaisalmer) via Osian, Phalodi-Khican makes an ideal overnight stop for travelers, those who would like to experience life in small desert hamlets, rich in traditional living, people and wild animals together! camel is only mode of transportation so called Camel Safari. Osian is an ancient village of Thar Desert famous for its Hindu and Jain temples (8th -12th centuary old) Khichan is famous for home of migratory birds Demoiselle Cranes comes every year from Oct. to March. Leader of team Gemar Singh & Shivam paying guest house Jodhpur; is recommended by lonely planet guide book 2006 for camel safaris, camping, jeep drive, desert walk and home-stay (traditional desert hut or open sky under the stars!) Osian’s surrounding desert, as yet unspoiled by tourism. Base camp Hacra Dhani is in area where there are many gazelle and peacocks hamlets of bhisnoi, bhil and rajputts. An experience of desert culture, people and it’s wild life. Using locally owned services, buying supplies from village shops, visiting local craftsmen and weavers at work, is also team’s aim to bring economic and socially benefits to natives and an experience for guest. At base camp one can experience local culture as camp is in close proximity of rural hamlets so called ‘Dhani’ and area as yet unspoiled by safari tourism alike Jaisalmer or Bikaner.
